Three competitors from the Cobar Swimming Club attended two swimming carnivals last weekend at the Dubbo Auqatic Leisure Centre.

The swim meets were the 2009 Western District Speedo Sprint Series Heats on Saturday and the 2009 Western District Championships on Sunday.

At the sprint series the competitors were qualifying for positions to represent the Western District at the Speedo finals in Sydney in March.

At Sunday’s event, competitors were representing and accruing points for their club for the Western District Championships.

Representing the Cobar club were Georgia Baker (11 years) and new club members Gizella Szekely (11 yrs) and Attila Szekely (9 yrs).

The swim club competitors, trained by Leonard Baker, represented Cobar with pride and enjoyed enormous success with the following results: on Saturday Georgia and Attila secured positions to compete at the Speedo finals.

Gizella secured a personal best (pb) time for breaststroke and backstroke.

Georgia’s full results (50m Freestyle 1st; 50m Back Stroke 1st; 50m Butterfly 1st (pb) and 50m Breast Stroke 3rd) securing her positions to compete in all four stroke events.

Attila’s results (50m Freestyle 3rd; 50m Back Stroke 3rd and 50m Butterfly 3rd) secured his position to compete in all three events.

In the Western Districts Championship on Sunday Cobar Swimming Club was coming 10th out of 17 clubs at lunch time with finals results yet to be received.

This was a commendable position with only three competitors.

Georgia competed in seven events winning Gold in both the 50m and 100m freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events and Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke in her age division.

Gizella provided strong competition in the freestyle, backstroke and breast stroke events.
