Golfie bowls starts to feel the heat
Wednesday February 11, 2009
Hot days and bowlers travelling out of town has taken a toll on the local bowls competitions at the Golfie.
Golden Oldies numbers were reduced to one rink of triples on Thursday, when Bill Dickson, Joe Chandler and Allan Strange were way too strong for Jack Tulloh, Max Humphries and Rod Leahy to win 20-7 (or a +13 score).
Sunday’s weather forecast of 44 degrees was a big deterrent for most but surprisingly the light breeze welcomed the four players to a rink of pairs. After a close see-saw game of 10 ends, Bill Dickson and Terry Clyde scored two shots on the last end to defeat Max Humphries and Daniel Holt 10-8.
Eight bowlers travelled to Hillston for the Summer Pairs Carnival over the weekend.
After elimination rounds were completed, four teams qualified for the play-offs on
Sunday, with three of these skippered by Golfie players.
The eventual winners were Joe Chandler and Darryl Rees, followed by S. Tuckett and Rod Leahy (second), G. Hodgson and Neville Fisher third and T. Graham and Tom Fox fourth.—Max
