Spirited performances by Orana Credit Union (OCU), GW Spartans and RGM featured in last Thursday’s final round of the Cobar mixed touch competition at Ward Oval.
A five try scoring spree by promising junior footballer David Watson guided OCU to an emphatic 19-4 victory over young archrivals Joblink Plus.
Macauley Dawson (2 tries), Khaleb Whitehurst (2), Ellie Potter (2), Jim Delboux and Hayley Black also displayed pace and clever ball skills for the winners.
Taylor Gilbert and Tarlia Mackay replied for Joblink with Delboux and Gilbert nominated for best and fairest points.
A dominant performance by Gerard Francisco’s GW Spartans sealed an entertaining
12-1 victory over rivals DJW.
Steve Ford contributed four mostly-runaway tries, Sean Cox and Todd Fugar crossed for two each, while Demi Smith and Brittany Fugar also touched down for the Spartans.
Consolation tries for DJW were scored by Kelly Bridge and Jason Kershaw with Callie Fugar and Cox sharing best and fairest honours.
Competition frontrunners RGM sealed a major semi-final berth with a decisive 13-1 win over Cobar Brick Works (CBW).
Free-wheeling performances for RGM were recorded by Luke Haldoupis (3 tries), Rhys Power (3), Brendan Everett (3), Jaimee Cohen, Nicola Harbison and Paul Gauci.
Rohan Lloyd posted a consolation point for CBW while Everett and Harbison were awarded best and fairest match honours.
The CCI Rebels overcame a slow start and some vigorous defence to outpoint Cool Runnings 8-2.
Two point tries by female players Lisa Spinks, Tanya Huon and Amie Jacklyn boosted the final score with Chris Gilbert and Peter Ford also touching down for the winners.
Andrew Thorpe managed a late reply for Cool Runnings while match honours went to Huon and Ford.—contributed.
