Brilliant win for Roosters Under 18s
Wednesday March 11, 2009

Cobar Roosters’ Kyle Mawhinney is held up just metres from the line in Saturday night’s pre-season game against Orange CYMS at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.
The Cobar Roosters Under 18s rugby league side have kicked off their 2009 season in a big way recording a brilliant 18-16 pre-season win over the Orange CYMS Under 18s on Saturday night.
A big crowd packed Tom Knight Memorial Oval for the Group 11 versus Group 10 pre-season games to cheer on the Roosters in the Under 18s and First Grade games.
Last year’s Group 10 minor premiers, the Orange CYMS Under 18s side, came out firing and put first points on the board after just eight minutes of play.
However the very strong Cobar side was
not deterred and regrouped to reply with a
try to Brady Wyer which was converted
by Rhys Power to give Cobar a narrow 6-4 lead.
Wyer’s second try, at the 57-minute mark, was again converted by Power, and proved to be the match winner with Cobar snatching an 18-16 win.
Standouts for Cobar were Wyer, Zacc Douglas (who also touched down for Cobar), Simon Prince, Kyle Mawhinney and newcomer Clay Neale.
The Cobar Roosters First Grade side was slow off the mark in their pre-season match against Orange CYMS on Saturday night and were down 16-0 before Matt Manns crossed for a try for Cobar.
Cobar clawed their way back into the match and looked to be in with a chance at the end of the third period with the score at 26-18.
However, CYMS went on to score four
quick tries in succession for which Cobar had no answer and the final score blew out to
40-18.
Brad Dunne and Justin Schick (one try each), Steve Ford (two goals) and Brendon Everett (one goal) added to Cobar’s total.
