A local mother of two has turned her own challenges in finding suitable kids’ clothes locally into an opportunity with a new business.
Samantha Egan is the driving force behind new main street shop Cobar Kids, which aims to provide locals with quality, affordable children’s clothes for “everyday kids”.
She said since moving to Cobar from Melbourne around three years ago, she had struggled to find a good range of affordable children’s clothes locally.
“There was a definite need for a dedicated children’s clothes shop,” Ms Egan told The Cobar Weekly.
“It was important to have an affordable range.
“I want to make sure to stay competitive with Dubbo prices and keep people shopping in town.”
Cobar Kids carries boys’ and girls’ clothing with sizes ranging from babies up to approximately 12 years.
Ms Egan said she was assisted by Cobar Enterprise Facilitator Mark Workman in developing the shop.
“Mark set up a meeting with a focus group where things like product pricing and ranges were discussed.
Mr Workman said the focus group also helped Ms Egan define her marketing angles and get feedback from potential local customers.
“It was also a great way to really define what her product was going to be, and she was able to get the details right,” Mr Workman said.
Ms Egan said while she had a background in book keeping, Cobar Enterprise Facilitation and Mr Workman were able to help her in a number of other areas of starting a business.
“The basic functions of a business remain the same no matter what the type of business it is,” Mr Workman said.
“We worked together to identify her specific market, price range, margins and those sorts of things,” he said.
