Golf’s gold medal goes to Gibson

Wednesday May 12, 2010

A field of 25 players contested the men’s golf par event on Saturday with a score of +7 by Mark Gibson good enough to earn him the winner’s gold medal.
He was followed by Max Phillips (+6) and Michael Ryan (+6).
Bill Fugar displayed some accurate tee shots to record three nearest the pins prizes.
Phillips and Ian Prendergast also recorded one nearest the pin shot apiece.
Another good field of 24 players contested a 4-Ball-Best-Ball Stableford event on Sunday which was the CPS Sureshot Qualifier.
The pairing of Piers Brown and Jade Townsend who finished with a score of 47, proved too good for the rest of the field on the day.
They were followed home by Phil and Brad Gilligan (45) and Peter Brien and Geoff Dunne (45).
These three pairs will now contest the final to be played at Nyngan.
The best individual score on Sunday was recorded by Colin Green and Derek Beehan, both with 39 points.
Nearest the pins shots were hit by Bruce Mitchell, Mick Bannister, John Potter and Bian Smith.
During the week the Nyngan Veterans event was conducted with Cobar veteran Max Phillips scooping the pool to win.
This weekend Stableford events will be played on both Saturday and Sunday for the local men’s competition.—contributed
