A drug detection operation in Cobar over the weekend uncovered a number of offences, including indications of drug manufacturing at a local residence.
Drug detection dogs were in town as part of Operation Viking, and were used in the search of a Murray Street address where drugs and other items were located.
Senior Constable Adam Gibson said a search warrant on the address was executed at 7.05pm on Saturday by officers from the Darling Local Area Command, resulting in charges against a 25 year old Cobar man.
“While police were conducting the search, a clear plastic resealable bag containing five tablets fell out of the occupiers pocket.
“The drug detection dogs had several indications that there were drugs present in the house,” he said.
Police also located two glass beakers and a glass condenser in the main bedroom of the residence, as well as further drug paraphernalia in the kitchen and in the fridge.
“A clear plastic bag containing a yellow substance was located in the freezer,” Senior Constable Gibson said.
“The occupier was arrested and conveyed to Cobar Police Station where he was interviewed.
“He admitted to owning the five tablets, which he claimed to be ecstasy, and said the yellow substance was amphetamine and also belonged to him,” Senior Constable Gibson said.
The man was charged with three counts of possession of a prohibited drug.
Police are continuing investigations into a number of other items seized from the premises.
At 12.53am on Saturday rug detection dogs and police officers on a walk-through of a licensed premises located a man in possession of a prohibited drug.
The 27 year old man from Western Australia was in the beer garden of the hotel and was observed to throw an object on the ground, which was detected by the dog.
The item was seized by police and the man admitted it was marijuana.
He was issued with a cannabis caution on the spot.
