Businesses learn to improve store presentation

Wednesday May 13, 2009

A large group of Cobar business people learned about business presentation techniques at a free workshop hosted by Cobar Business Association last week.

Western region shop presentation ‘guru’ Norman Stoker visited 14 Cobar businesses for initial consultations, before presenting a workshop to the business owners last Tuesday night.

Mr Stoker, who works for Freedom Furniture in Dubbo, spoke about window displays and shopfront tricks; internal layout and presentation of a business; correct lighting and its positive effects in a business; and ways of attracting the target market’s eye.

Sue Loughran and other staff from The John Mitchell Pharmacy participated in the workshop, with Ms Loughran saying Mr Stoker was “very detailed” in his consultations with businesses.

“He was very good.

“He was very impressed with our store layout and stock density and lines.

“He did offer some tips and tricks for making things better, because there is always room to improve,” Ms Loughran said.

“If he was to come again we would be very happy to have him back.”

The visit was facilitated by Cobar Business Association and the Orana Area Consultative Committee.

Ms Loughran said Mr Stoker also spoke with other businesses about issues such as shop colours, the set-up and layout of desks and counters; and what is most inviting to customers.
