WGNSW event brings out new handicaps

The third round of the Women’s Golf NSW Monthly Medal (WGNSW) was held last Wednesday with a few players now finding themselves with a new handicap following some great scores.
Jannine Wilkin took the medal with a 66 net score ahead of Chrissy Grammer on 68 net Janet Place was next (69 net) while Alma Rogers got the nod over Robyn Morton on a count back.
Both scored a 70 net result. Rogers picked up the putting prize with 25 putts.
A number of Cobar golfers travelled to Nyngan on Thursday for the Vets Open.
The top three players (which included Sally Bannister) all scored 39 stableford points and the winner had to be decided on count back.
After the count back Bannister finished in third place and Alma Rogers was fourth on 38 points.
Gerry Francisco picked up a nearest the pin prize.
The Trangie pennants team travelled to Cobar on Friday keen to keep their 5-0 record intact but the Cobar lady golfers had other plans.
Angela Fryer didn’t give her opponent a look-in winning eight holes with three to go; Jannine Wilkin’s game was over by the 14th with her playing partner conceding (Wilkin was six up with four to go); Gloria Hay was up four with three holes left to play; Sally Bannister was three up with two left to play; Susan Wyllie put up a great fight only to be one hole down with two to play.
The next pennants round will be played in Narromine later this month.
Sue Phillips and Fay Hardwick won Saturday’s two person Ambrose with a score of net 69¼.
The runners-up were daughter/mother combination Karen Bishop and Sally Bannister (70¼) followed by Alma Rogers and Judy Mitchell (70½) and Pam Sikora with Janine Ryan (72).
Sally Bannister and Donna Prendergast picked up the nearest the pins on the 8th and 11th holes.
The Mother’s Day stableford special gift event attracted 21 players on Sunday for a wonderful afternoon of golf. Susan Wyllie is now sporting a new handicap after taking first place with a brilliant 43 points.
She was four points clear of runner-up Angela Fryer while Pam Sikora, on 38 points, was third.
The next place getters were all decided on count back as 37 was the popular number of points on the day.
Those in the mix were Gloria Hay, Alma Rogers, Janine Ryan, Ann Dunn and Robyn Morton.
The nearest the pins were won by Janine Ryan and Gloria Hay on the 7th and 15th holes.
Today’s is a stableford game and on Saturday a second Trophy Day will be played in conjunction with the Mabel McKenzie Brooch.
Sunday is the International Bowl competition, which is a stroke event.—T’d Off
