this year with the assistance of Country Arts Support Program (CASP) funding.
An acrylic artists workshop and an African drumming performance and workshop have both received $1,500 under the funding program.
Cobar Shire Council applied for both grants, with the projects to be run in conjunction with a number of other community groups.
Council’s special projects officer Angela Shepherd said the painting workshop is being organised by Yvonne Beard from the Outback Artist’s Gallery.
“This funding means the cost of the workshops will now be cheaper for participants,” Ms Shepherd said.
The four day Mastering Acrylic Painting workshop will focus on still life and landscape works with artist Pamela Griffith.
Ms Shepherd said it is hoped the African Drumming workshops can run over two days in Cobar.
“We are now hoping to get some additional funding through community groups to extend this workshop,” she said.
It is hoped community partners such as Barnardos and the Cobar Arts Council will be able to source the additional funds.
At this stage the workshops will be held with local school students, and the visit will culminate with a public performance at Cobar Cinema by both the professional drummers and workshop participants.
The drumming workshops are hoped to be held in October.
NSW Minister for Arts Virginia Judge said the CASP funds provide small grants for regional NSW to hold local art projects.
“The grants encourage communities to work together on cultural projects, foster cultural diversity in the regions and ensure regional and rural areas have an artistic voice,” Ms Judge said.
