Masons from across the state travelled
to Cobar on the weekend to attend the
installation of the new Master of the
Cobar Lodge 97 Worshipful Brother John Mead.
John, who has been an active member of the Cobar Lodge for a number of years, was installed into the chair of the lodge for the next 12 months by long-time Cobar Mason and sitting Master John Polack.
Masons from Canberra, Broken Hill, Wollongong, Warialda, Coffs Harbour, Sydney, Central Coast, Lightning Ridge and Nyngan joined with Cobar Masons for the installation ceremony at the Cobar Masonic Centre.
Local Mason Tony Punzet, who currently holds the senior position as Regional Grand Counsellor, represented the Grand Master Most Worshipful Gregory Levenston at the installation ceremony.
Right Worshipful Brother Punzet was joined for the evening by a number of senior
Grand Lodge members to witness the installation of the Worshipful Master elect Brother Mead.
In his welcoming address Brother Mead expressed his gratitude to the Masons who had travelled long distances to Cobar for the occasion.
A group of masons who attended the Cobar Installation are known as the “Mobile Masons” as they regularly travel to various country lodges with their partners to support remote area lodges.
At the completion of the installation ceremony local and visiting masons and their partners gathered at the Cobar Memorial Services Club for an installation banquet.
Regional Grand Counsellor Punzet took the opportunity during the banquet to present well known local mason Heinz Goldman with his 40 year Certificate.
Visiting Senior Mason Right Worshipful Brother Olly Bergstron, who is Chairman
of the Masonic Youth Welfare Fund Committee, presented Cobar Lodge members with
an award for the most funds raised in Region 13.
Right Worshipful Bergstron made mention that money raised for the Masonic Youth Welfare Fund are used to support the education expenses of disadvantaged young people in the community.
He said a number of talented young people in western NSW are supported by this fund, which does not require the young person’s father to be a mason.—contributed
