Ethan Brookman was one of the local junior riders who got some riding tips from
Australian junior Supercross and Motocross rider Tye Simmonds at the Cobar Auto Club’s Open Days held over the weekend at the local race track.
Australian Supercross and Motorcross former junior champion Tye Simmonds was on hand to give some coaching tips to local riders at the Cobar Auto Club’s open days on Saturday and Sunday at the Auto Club grounds.
The 18 year old, who hails from Bourke, spent a lot of his early riding career at the Cobar track before hitting the big time and competing in national competitions as well as the United States.
Cobar Auto Club president Daniel Brookman said it was great to have someone of Simmonds’ calibre for the Open Days.
“He came out and coached on Saturday and the kids thought it was great,” he said.
The club Open Days attracted 30 riders with experienced riders using it as a training opportunity for upcoming events while for new riders it was a chance to try out the track.
Mr Brookman said the club Open Days are designed to give new riders, especially juniors, the chance to ride in a non-racing environment so that they can get a feel for the track without the pressure of being in a race.
He said the Open Days were also aimed at attracting families to the sport of motorcycle racing with a barbecue lunch provided for riders and spectators.
The club plans to hold a few more events this year, including motocross and flat track race meetings, which will finish off the remainder of the 2010 season.
“We’ll be finalising the calendar next week,” Mr Brookman said.
