Cobar junior squash players Kristian Retallick and Dylan Gibson were among the 17 participants at the Far West Academy of Sport’s regional junior squash talent identification camp in Warren last week.
Squash NSW National Junior Coach Grant Gough from Macksville worked with the juniors and was assisted by Locke Cameron, a Sydney-based development officer for Squash NSW.
Mr Gough said at the conclusion of the camp that he was very impressed with the progress of the attending athletes.
He recommended that local squash clubs work together to set up a series of junior tournaments before the 2010 Squash NSW Junior Championships, to further develop the talents of the far west juniors who attended the camp.
While in Warren, Mr Gough spoke to the athletes about the pathway for squash players to the elite professional level, which is into Asian countries.
Along with winning the Group A Pool, Kristian Retallick also collected one of five Sportspower encouragement awards handed out at the camp.—contributed
