A $150,000 government grant has helped to quickly move along the Cobar Primary School (CPS) P&C’s plans to landscape the school grounds.
The funding comes from the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution program which is part of $14.7 billion pledged to schools over the next three years to provide new facilities and refurbishments.
CPS principal Jonathon Harvey said the school had recently been “unofficially” notified of the funding that will go towards various landscaping projects around the school.
Nicky Jenkins from the P&C Parent Planning Committee said that the landscaping project has been divided into four separate stages with concept plans already drawn up for each stage.
“The priority for the school is the re-seeding of the oval, more watering systems for the rest of the school’s garden areas and improvements to existing gardens and infrastructure,” Mrs Jenkins said.
Other stages of the project include the creation of an indigenous Ngboaree area and a Riverine garden, both of which incorporate outdoor classrooms as well as passive areas for students and families.
The final stage is a working kitchen garden which encourages students participation.
