Almost an inch of rainfall measured in Cobar over Easter

Thursday April 16, 2009

It was a wet Easter long weekend in Cobar with welcome falls totalling more than 20mm (almost an inch) between Thursday and Monday.

Although the rain was welcome in town, it seems most rural areas received little or no falls with all roads in the Cobar Shire remaining open over the weekend.

The rain started Thursday afternoon with 14.4mm falling to 9am Friday morning.

A further 2.4mm was recorded at 9am Saturday morning, while 5.4mm was measured to 9am Sunday.

While most of the eastern seaboard in the country was also drenched over the weekend, it wasn’t the same story across the western region.

Louth received 38mm of rainfall, however Bourke, Angledool, Collarenebri and Tibooburra all received less than 5mm.

Wannaring and Brewarrina received less than 10mm of rainfall.

After a fairly warm mid-week with temperatures reaching 28 on Wednesday and Thursday, the rain kept temperatures down over the weekend.

A top of just 20.6 degrees was measured on Friday, while Saturday was 24 degrees and Sunday was 23.9.

No more rainfall is forecast for this week.

Today is expected to reach a top of 27 degrees after a minimum of 12 with a fine and sunny day predicted.

Similar conditions are expected tomorrow, with the temperature to range from 14 to 26 degrees.

A fine start to the weekend is on the way, with 25 degrees the forecast maximum temperature on Saturday.

The same is expected on Sunday, while the start of the working week next Monday is forecast to be a top of 24 degrees.
