Cobar to bid to host regional awards
Thursday April 16, 2009

Cobar Business Association secretary Angela Shepherd and president Michael Cox are working on a submission to host the regional business awards in Cobar this year.
The Cobar Business Association, in conjunction with Cobar Shire Council, will make a bid to host the 2009 Regional Business Excellence Awards Gala Dinner.
Cobar Business Association chairperson Michael Cox told business association members at the April monthly meeting that he expects the application made by council to the Orana Area Consultative Committee (ACC) to host the regional awards will be looked upon favourably.
He said the association and council had successfully co-hosted the annual local business awards for the past three years and the experience would assist them to host a regional event.
“In the past, we have not bid to host such events as we did not have adequate accommodation to house visitors,” Mr Cox said.
He said with the recent construction of a new 36 room motel and a decrease in demand on motel accommodation by the local mining industry, Cobar was now better placed to accommodate the influx of visitors the regional awards would bring.
“Local businesses will be used as suppliers for the event wherever possible such as catering, entertainment and decorations.”
If Cobar wins the bid, the event will take place late September or October.
