Rain causes some delays to street work

Contractors hope to have Linsley Street resealed and reopened to traffic next week after major works as part of the Cobar CBD beautification project.

Rain over the Easter weekend has disrupted upgrade works in Cobar’s CBD area.

Cobar Shire Council’s Acting Director of Engineering Brian Cohen said the wet weather meant works could not be carried out as planned over the weekend.

“They pretty much haven’t been able to do anything since Thursday,” he said.

“That puts things back about four days.”

Current works are focused on finalising kerb, guttering and paving in Marshall Street along the Great Western Hotel.

Contractors are also hoping to reopen the northern side of Linsley Street to traffic next week once the road has been resealed.

In council’s media advertisements this week, Mr Cohen reports work will soon move back to the southern side of Linsley Street.

New kerb and guttering will be installed from the Cobar Age office to the chemist corner.

Kerb and guttering will also be installed for the new taxi rank.

Those works are expected to take around two weeks, while the new taxi rank will be installed by council at a later date.
