Welcome rain interrupts big golf weekend

Thursday April 16, 2009

Welcome rain interrupted a big weekend of golf in Cobar over Easter with Friday’s and Saturday’s events being cancelled due to course conditions.

However on Wednesday before the rains came 12 players teed off for the men’s par event.

The eventual winner was Wayne Josephson with a score of +7.

He was followed by Greg Read (+5) and Dean McLeod (+4).

One nearest the pin shot was recorded by Tony Brown.

Only 10 players lined up for a stableford event on Sunday.

The small field was possibly explained by golf carts not being allowed, again due to course conditions.

The winner on the day was Mark Edgecombe (40) pursued by Peter Brien (37) and Bruce Mitchell (37).

The Fugar brothers, Neville and Bill, recorded the only nearest the pins shots on the day.

A good field of 23 turned out to contest a 4-ball aggregate event on Monday only to be frustrated by the weather again after completing almost 14 holes.

This Saturday will feature a par event while a stableford will be played on Sunday.

Also this weekend a number of players will travel to Bourke to contest the NSW Sandgreen 4-Ball-Best-Ball Championship.—contributed
