Cobar Old Boys hope to create Greater Western branch
Wednesday December 16, 2009

Cobar Junior Rugby League secretary Racquel Potter was pleased to accept a $200
donation from Ritchie Douglas of the Cobar Rugby League Old Boys Club.
A local group of rugby league enthusiasts make up the Cobar Rugby League Old Boys Club whose aim is to assist local charities and people from the local rugby league community who may have fallen on hard times and need some assistance to help them get back on track.
One of the club’s members, Ritchie Douglas, said club membership is open to anyone that has an interest in rugby league.
“You don’t have to be an old ex-footballer to become a member,” Mr Douglas said.
“The committee would like to invite everybody to join this worthwhile club and hopefully assist in making somebody else’s life a little bit better.”
He said ex-rugby league players, their partners, current rugby league players and their partners, as well as rugby league supporters and the general community are all encouraged to fill out the membership forms and join up.
“A one-off membership fee is all it takes to be a lifelong member of the Cobar Rugby League Old Boys Club,” he said.
The Cobar Rugby League Old Boys Club initially started out a few months ago in the hope of forming The Greater Western Area branch for the Men of League Foundation, ‘MOLF’.
MOLF was formed in 2002 by a group of ex-rugby league players in the hope of helping out people associated with the rugby league community that had for some reason fallen on hard times.
From just 50 members, the foundation has now grown to over 13,000 members with 16 different committees spread throughout Australia.
Mr Douglas said if Cobar was to be the base for the Greater Western Area Branch, it
would need to have at least 150 registered members.
“At last count we had about 50 registered members,” he said.
Mr Douglas said more information on The Men of League Foundation can be found at their website, www.menofleague.com—contributed
