presentation ceremony on Monday.
Four local students have been awarded prestigious national awards.
Cobar High School students David Watson (Year 10), Rohan Lloyd (Year 11) and Jaimee Cohen (Year 12), along with Sarah Mitchell who studies with the School of Distance Education, received Australian Defence Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards.
Across the country 5,860 students received the awards in Years 10, 11 and 12.
Chief of the Australia Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston said the recipients were chosen for their contribution to the local community and “having exemplified qualities that showcase their personal development and community spirit”.
“The awards began in 2006 and seek to encourage leadership and teamwork among school aged students as integral parts of their personal development and their contribution towards enhancing community spirit within both the school and the broader community,” Air Chief Marshal Houston said.
“The outstanding efforts of young Australians throughout the country should be both recognised and applauded.”
Award winners received prizes of $100 (Year 10), $250 (Year 11) and $500 (Year 12).
