More input needed as Youth Week planning gets underway

Following a poor showing at last Thursday’s Youth Week planning meeting, Cobar’s Youth Worker Debbi Parisi has decided to call another meeting tonight to gauge interest for the event.
Mrs Parisi said the timing of last week’s meeting wasn’t ideal with the meeting on at the same time as the high school’s annual swimming carnival.
“However there were some really good ideas from the few girls that did turn up to the meeting,” Mrs Parisi said.
A movie marathon, a costume party, a crazy hair day, a pyjama party, an expression session on the skate park for scooters, bikes and blades, a karaoke or talent show, a dance workshop with local dance teachers, a disco and a game of paintball using balloons with paint or food dye were some of the suggestions put to the meeting.
“There was a lot of discussion about the pyjama party about making it a girls night in with cooking, someone doing hair and nails, maybe a fashion parade and someone coming to give a talk about girls’ health,” Mrs Parisi said.
“It would be a really girly sort of night where we could lay around in our pyjamas, eat chocolate and have manicures and pedicures.”
Mrs Parisi said she hoped there would be a better response to tonight’s meeting.
“Youth Week is for youth aged 12-24 and
we need people to come along to the next meeting to take responsibility for organising activities.
“My staff and I are happy to pitch in and help but Youth Week is all about youth and what youth want to do,” Mrs Parisi said.
“We really would like high school kids to become involved and make it their own.
“We are also hoping that an interest in Youth Week will help to restart the youth council and that we get a strong representation from all ages on the council.”
Youth Week activities will take place in Cobar from April 10 to 18.
