Long standing records tumble at CHS carnival

Starter Paul Green sends the CHS 16 years male competitors off in their Backstroke event at Thursday’s swimming carnival.


The Cobar High School (CHS) held their annual swimming carnival on Thursday afternoon at the Cobar Memorial Pool.
A number of records were broken, some of them long standing, and one that dates back to 1994.
In her 13 years events, Georgia Baker set new records in the 100m Freestyle (1.12.90), 50m Freestyle (32.86), 50m Butterfly
(34.05) and 50m Backstroke (37.99) which beat the 1994 record of 40.07 previously held by Nicole Hunter.
Dylan Prince, in his 15 years events, set new records in the 100m Freestyle (1.02.64), 50m Freestyle (27.05), 50m Backstroke (33.36) and 50m Butterfly (29.77).
Wade Potter took almost five seconds off the standing male 16 years 100m Freestyle to record the new record for the event of 1.07.52.
The carnival’s age champions were: 12 years—Ethan Bereyne and Kahlie Obray;
13 years—Liam Prince and Georgia Baker; 14 years—Ethan Black and Charlotte Young;
15 years Dylan Prince and Codi Mackay; 16 years Wade Potter and Hannah Young; 17+ years— Ray Ebsworth and Hope Semmler.
The House Relay records for Junior Boys and Junior Girls were also broken.
Both records were previously held by Great Cobar. Fort Bourke now holds the Junior Boys’ record (2.42.90) and also the Junior Girls’ (2.27.86).—contributed
