Accolades for Cobar cricket’s best
Wednesday March 17, 2010
The Cobar District Senior Cricket Association held their annual presentation night on Saturday after completion of the grand final earlier in the day.
Winners of the main individual awards were as follows: Cobar Age Cricketer of the Year was Phil Harley, Representative Cricketer of the Year was Jake Harbison, who was also winner of the Macquarie Valley Cricket Council Brewery Shield Player of the Year and Under 24 Cricketer of the Year.
The Under 18 Cricketer of the Year was Wade Potter.
Player of the Match in the Grand Final was Jade Buckman; Clubman of the Year was Graham Harbison; and Gentleman of Cricket for the year was Bryan Manns.
The Steve Wetzel Trophy for Best All-Rounder went to Stewart Fraser. Fraser received a recognition of achievement award on announcing his retirement from representative cricket. He finished his representative career playing with the most number of games for Cobar. He has also scored the most runs (over 2,500) and taken the most catches as well as being one of only three players to take over 100 wickets.
Don Le Lievre and Craig Dillon were presented with life membership of the Cobar District Cricket Association. Le Lievre received his award for not only his efforts during his playing days with Kerrigundi and Louth, but also for his administration efforts in getting the Darling Council (Cobar and Bourke) set up in the 1970s and recognised as an integral part of the representative scene in central west NSW.
If it had not been for Le Lievre continually pressing for Darling Council’s involvement in cricket then the outstanding recent achievements of the Cobar team in the Country Plate knockout and Brewery Shield competitions would not have eventuated.
Dillon was acknowledged for his efforts as a regular captain of the successful Nymagee team as well as the Cobar representative teams and his on field results. His current statistics are quiet impressive.
The team award winners were as follows: The Billy Manns Premiership Trophy went to RSL Club, The Dewar Cup Minor Premiership Trophy went to Nymagee, The Bert Oldfield Challenge Trophy went to the Ox Colts.
Other individual award winners were: Most Improved Under 18 Player Travis Dunlevy; Most Dedicated Under 18 Player Slade Neale; Most Runs Phil Harley (with 378); Batting Average Phil Harley (54.0); Highest Score Jake Harbison (133); Most Ducks Damian Wray; Mal Hillier received a recognition of achievement award for batting through an innings which he did twice during the season (only the second player ever in the 50 years of Cobar cricket to do so); Most Wickets Stewart Fraser; Bowling Average Stewart Fraser (8.8); Best Bowling Figures Phil Harley (6/16); Fielding Award Luke Hillier and Rohan Lloyd; and Most Catches Roger Mitchell (12).
