Enterprise facilitator Mark Workman speaks to council

If you have a background in business, or you want to help the Cobar community move forward, then Mark Workman wants to meet you.

That was the message Mr Workman, Cobar’s own enterprise facilitator, gave to last Thursday’s Cobar Shire Council committee meetings.

He explained that in his role of helping people to get their business ideas up and running, he needs local contacts and resources.

“We don’t initiate projects and we don’t promote what we think are good ideas.

“My job is to offer free, confidential business coaching to anybody in the Cobar Shire,” Mr Workman explained.

He told councillors that an important part of his job is making sure people understand his role and that they too may be able to help.

“You don’t have to be interested in starting a business, just interested in what’s going on in the community.

“I’m always on the lookout for members of the community with skills to help clients when issues come up.

“I can’t be an expert in everything so I need help from the community,” Mr Workman said.

At the meeting Mr Workman outlined his business background in areas such as rural business, IT and the mining industry, saying that it allows him to “appreciate” the approach of Cobar Enterprise Facilitation.

“I would like to have had a mentor or business coach when I was in business,” he said.

“As facilitator I do market research, provide mentoring, and find resources.

“I help remove obstacles from the path and give people every opportunity to do what it is they are there to do,” Mr Workman said.
