A familiar face joined Ian Settree’s Experience Cobar tour this week when Mike Whitney, the host of Channel 7 travel program Sydney Weekender, took the tour as part of a feature of Cobar on the TV program. Ian was contacted earlier this year by NSW Tourism and then later by the Channel 7 staff to film a segment for Sydney Weekender. The crew has spent most of the past two days filming around Cobar. As well as tagging along on Ian’s Experience Cobar tours around town and on the surface at the Peak Gold Mine, they also shot footage in the gold room at Peak, at the Open Cut lookout, and inside the Great Cobar Heritage Centre where they interviewed tourism officer John Martin before heading out to the CSA Mine yesterday afternoon. Cobar icons, the Big Beer Can and the ‘Welcome to Cobar’ sign, were also items of interest for the crew. “The exercise was not only good promotion for me but also for the heritage centre and the town generally,” Ian said. He said the Sydney Weekender episode featuring Cobar is expected to air on
Channel 7 in September.
