Adjustment made to liquor accord banning rule

Wednesday June 17, 2010

Cobar Liquor Accord has adjusted one of its rules regarding the banning of patrons from licensed premises.
Accord members at Tuesday’s monthly meeting voted that any patron who receives a fine from police for failing to quit a licensed premises will also receive a blanket ban from all local licensed premises for six months.
Accord chairperson Gerard Francisco said the fine, worth $550, is issued when patrons refuse to leave a licensed premises when asked by staff, security or police.
“If the police have to be called to get someone out of a premises, they will receive this fine and the ban,” Mr Francisco said.
He said members made the rule based on the severity of the offence.
“This decision was made after consultation with members and the police,” he said.
He said the Accord is also planning to review a number of its other rules in the coming months.
“We need to make sure to keep up to date with what’s going on in town,” he said.
Mr Francisco said the Accord is also focusing on measures to encourage and promote the use of designated drivers.
“If you’re the designated sober driver for a night out, the licensed premises will provide free soft drink for you,” he said.
