Everyday Heroes (EDH) fought their way to an impressive 26-22 win over NECU Girls in last Tuesday’s Women’s Indoor Netball grand final at the youth centre.
Despite being one player short and having to play an injured shooter in their run-on grand final side, the NECU Girls controlled the first quarter and had a 5-3 lead going into the break.
Sarah Irvine then came off the bench for EDH which had a calming effect on the mostly young side and they started to play a more cohesive game.
EDH had a one goal lead at half time (12-11) and also led by one goal (18-17) at three-quarter time.
Strong defence from Player of the Grand Final, Benetta Townsend, and Emma Brown kept the NECU Girls in the hunt until the final quarter when EDH pulled away to win the match by a four goal margin.
EDH were well served by Rumah Prendergast in defence who took a number of intercepts for turn overs that resulted in goals.
EDH also had the luxury of extra players on the bench and used a number of different shooting combinations throughout the match with Courtney Hillier, Brianna Watson and Bobby-Lee Taylor all shooting accurately.
