The newly refurbished Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool received its official opening yesterday morning with State Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries, Cobar mayor Lilliane Brady, and Cobar Shire Council general manager Ray Smith unveiling a commemorative plaque.
Also in attendance at the opening were the pool’s architect Stephen Johannson and building contractor John Dangerfield, pre school and school children, Cobar cadets, members of the senior men’s and junior swimming clubs along with members of the community.
Cr Brady paid tribute to the pool committee, the architect and contractor, council staff
(in particular Brian Cohen and Angela
Shepherd) and former and current councillors who all worked together to bring the project to fruition.
“It is a great pleasure to see this pool where it is today.
“It was well worth it,” Cr Brady said.
Mr Humphries praised all involved in the project saying Cobar had created a venue that people from away would want to come and see.
“I think it’s the jewel of the west,” he said.
The pool’s architect Mr Johansson praised the harmonious collaboration on the project between the contractor, the council and the community.
Since its unofficial opening on December 3, the pool has had record attendance numbers.
