Air operator puts in expression of interest for Cobar

Wednesday December 17, 2008

An airline operator has put forward an expression of interest for the Cobar to Dubbo air route.

The interest follows an urgent call from the state government following news Airlink (a subsidiary of Rex Airlines) will be withdrawing its service as of this Saturday.

Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries said expressions of interest have been received for all air routes affects by the Airlink withdrawal in the Barwon electorate.

“Now it is up to the Ministry of Transport to perform the due diligence procedures regarding the expression of interest with a potential invitation to apply for air passenger licenses after that,” Mr Humphries said on Monday.

He said while the news is promising, there is still no definite deal.

“If all goes well during the due diligence process it will be up to the applicant to put in an application to fly the intended routes to the NSW Minister of Transport which will then facilitate on ground issues with each community along with the potential new operator going forward,” Mr Humphries said.

He said while the due diligence process takes some time, it is hoped there will be an update on the situation early in the new year.
