Four lose licences

Wednesday February 18, 2009

Magistrate R Maiden has cracked down on drink drivers in Cobar, suspending the licences of four men in Cobar Local Court last week.

A 21 year old Cobar man will be sent to jail if he appears before the court again after being found guilty of driving with a special range prescribed concentration of alcohol and driving while disqualified.

According to the police facts presented to the court, the man was observed driving by police travelling in Lewis Street on December 12 last year.

He was found to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.03 at the time.

The man was fined a total of $1,500 for the two offences, and placed on a suspended sentence for 15 months, to be jailed for 15 months if he breaches the sentence.

He was also disqualified from driving for a further two and a half years and will not be eligible for a licence until 2012.

Magistrate Maiden also revoked a previous good behaviour bond the man had been placed on, and sentenced him to 150 hours community service for breaching the bond.

A 24 year old Cobar man will not be eligible to drive until 2011 after being convicted of driving with a mid range PCA.

He was fined $1,000, placed on a good behaviour bond for three years and disqualified from driving for two years.

The man allegedly had a BAC of 0.095 when he was caught driving by police with illegal LED lights in the grill of his vehicle in Bathurst Street on January 22.

A 23 year old Cobar man was also found guilty of driving with a mid-range PCA, and disqualified from driving for one year and fined $800.

He was found driving with a BAC of 0.110 and admitted to police he had been drinking before he drove in December last year.

A third mid range drink driver was also disqualified from driving after being convicted.

The 41 year old Cobar man was disqualified for six months and fined $500.

He had been driving with a BAC of 0.140 in January.

A 23 year old Cobar man also appeared in court last week to answer a charge of low range drink driving.

He was found guilty and the charge conditionally discharged with a good behaviour bond for one year.

He had been driving with a BAC of 0.06 in November last year.
