CSA Mine has this week appointed a new general manager with Rubens de Figueiredo taking over the general manager’s role from Nigel Slonker on Monday.
A press release from the CSA Mine on Monday said Mr de Figueiredo, who was born in Brazil, recently came to Cobar with his wife and two children from Glencore’s Mopani Copper Mines in Zambia having spent the last seven years working there in several senior management roles.
“Glencore has had a rotation process for
its senior managers in operation for some years, identifying that a broad range of experience at this level will ensure the best performance from all its assets,” the press release said.
The key area Mr de Figueiredo will be focusing on is improving the efficiency of CSA Mine as a whole.
This involves several new projects and
includes the shaft extension work that has been developing over the past six months in readiness for a presentation to the senior management of Glencore in the first week in April.
Outgoing general manager Mr Slonker has been at CSA since May 2005 and the general manager since October 2005 and is now moving on to take up a role with Pike River Coal Ltd in New Zealand.
“This has been a difficult decision,” Mr Slonker said.
“But I know it is the right one, allowing me to spend more time with my daughter.”
