Warriors get the better of Crusaders

Wednesday February 18, 2009

The captains for the U/16 cricket match last Tuesday were Cameron Dunlevy and David Watson with Watson’s Warriors getting the better of Cameron’s Crusaders.

Watson’s Warriors won the toss and elected to bat opening with Clinton Everett and Ethan Black.

Everett was dismissed in the second over off the bowling of Nicola Harbison for three runs which saw Wade Potter come to the crease.

Potter managed to stay in until the ninth over before he departed for a well compiled 28.

He was caught by Cameron Dunlevy off the bowling of John Cain. Watson was next into bat and made 13 runs before being caught and bowled by Jake Harbison. Opener Black was out in the next over for nine.

Dylan Prince (6), Eathan Dunlevy (2), Jayde Townsend (7 not out), Chris Elwell (1) and Dylan Gibson (8) made up the rest of the runs for Watson’s Warriors with the team’s final score at 95.

Best bowlers for Cameron’s Crusaders were Jake Harbison 3/9, John Cain 2/8, Slade Neale 2/18 and Nicola Harbison 1/5.

The Crusaders opened with Baden Smith and Bradley Harris but unfortunately Harris didn’t stay long and was caught in the first over by Potter off the bowling of Gibson for one.

Joel Mawhinney was next to go, out for a duck bowled by Chris Elwell.

Jesse Brennan was next up to the crease and, after Baden Smith was out for 11 (again caught by Potter) off the bowling of Eathan Dunlevy, Brennan was out for one. Nicola Harbison came to the crease in the 12th over and stayed to be the last wicket to fall in the 22nd over.

She finished with 12 runs. Saxon Luck (1), Jake Harbison (10) and Slade Neale (6) were the other run makers.

Unfortunately for the Crusaders they were unable to make the necessary runs and ran out of batters with just 75 runs on the board.

Wicket takers for the Warriors were Dylan Prince 3/9, Dylan Gibson 1/6, David Watson 1/7, Clinton Everett 1/10, Eathan Dunlevy 1/10 and Chris Elwell 1/13.

The game points went to Dylan Prince (3), Wade Potter (2) and Nicola Harbison (1).

Players are reminded to return their raffle tickets to Kath or Graham Harbison as soon as possible.—contributed
