Funds granted to build Euabalong hall

Euabalong will get a brand new community hall this year after the State government awarded $50,000 funding to the project last week.
Minister for Regional Development Phillip Costa announced last week that Euabalong would be one of the first three communities to receive funding under the NSW Country Halls Renewal Package, part of the $85 million Building the Country program.
Euabalong, which has a population of around 200 and is in the Cobar Shire, has been campaigning for a new hall for a number of years.
“The original hall was destroyed by fire three years ago and there is no other building in town that can be used as a meeting centre or for service delivery,” Mr Costa said.
He said it is hoped the new hall will allow a visiting doctor service to return to the village.
“Community halls are vital infrastructure for small towns in country NSW.
“They are the heart and soul of many communities and are used for everything from recreation to service delivery to social events,” Mr Costa said.
The funding will also be supplemented by insurance money from the fire and community support.
“This funding, matched with country spirit, will go a long toward regenerating the community hall,” Mr Costa said.
The Country Halls Renewal program has already proven popular with rural councils, with Mr Costa saying there were almost 400 phone enquiries about the funding in the first week after it was announced.
One of the conditions of the funding is that works are completed within the next six months.
