Sing Australia national director Colin Slater (pictured left) led around 30 enthusiastic locals through a singing workshop on Sunday at the Cobar Memorial Services Club, with the group now looking to form a local choir.
A group of locals are setting the wheels in motion to form a Sing Australia choir in Cobar after a visit by the organisation on the weekend.
Sing Australia National Director Colin Slater held a workshop at the Cobar Memorial Services Club on Sunday with around 30 interested locals attending.
At the end of the workshop, interest was shown in forming a local choir to meet on a regular basis.
Sing Australia’s Chris McPhail said the local choir requires a leader, conductor and accompanist to get up and running.
“They then become part of a network of 130 choirs around Australia,” Mr McPhail said.
Mr Slater encouraged workshop participants to have fun, explaining the social and health benefits of being part of a choir.
“This is about supporting, encouraging and having fun,” he said.
No auditions are required for members to join a Sing Australia choir.
“Some people think they can’t sing at all, but it’s the overall sound that is amazing.
“We are not entering an avenue of music where criticism is given,” Mr Slater said.
Sing Australia’s network of choirs perform at local events, and often come together for larger events including the ANZAC Day services at Gallipoli each year.
