The Cure Our Kids netball challenge fundraiser held at Ward Oval on Sunday was a huge success according to organiser Tanya Huon.
The day, hosted by Cobar Blues Football and Netball Club, helped raise funds for the Cure Our Kids Cancer Foundation and local beneficiary Dean Botten, who is currently battling cancer.
“Approximately $1,500 was made for the Cure Our Kids Cancer Foundation.
“$500 was donated from the Cobar Blues Club to Dean Botten and his family, which was made up of the profits from the 100 Club raffle and personal donations from locals,” Ms Huon said.
A total of 18 teams registered for the netball competition, which was split into three pools.
“Everyone dressed up and got behind the cause, which was great to see,” Ms Huon said.
The winning team in Pool A was the ‘Ghost Busters’ team of Shae Martin, Shane Martin, Belinda Pitkin, Brett Pitkin, Racquel Potter, Karen Bishop, Reina Cross and Matilda Power.
In Pool B a draw was recorded between The Slackers and The Bob Marleys.
Pool C winners were LABO.
A number of awards were given out on the day with the Test Eagles taking out the sportsmanship award, and the youngest team the Dragons given the encouragement award.
A number of awards were handed out for Best dressed players including Bactrians team member Brytt Moore, Lane Poland (Bright Sparks), Jesse Cartner (MacMob) as well as cheer squad member Jhett Walsh (MacMob).
Tori Botten and Brinley Obray were both given special awards for their contributions on the day.
Ms Huon said there were also plenty of participants in the kids tunnel ball and captain ball competitions.
“Hopefully this day will also help boost the profile of netball in Cobar with both the Junior and Senior Clubs preparing to kick off their seasons early next month,” she said.
