A group of local youths from Cobar High School and Cobar Public School worked with mural artist Rudy Kistler to create an impressive phosphorescent paint mural at the Cobar Entertainment Centre as part of a Barnardos project.
It’s official—Cobar kids are just having way too much fun and it seems the blame for this could be Barnardos!
Barnardos is a national welfare service which provides help and support for young people.
The local Barnardos staff have been running a variety of programs for youth in Cobar aimed at encouraging children to reach their full
potential, the latest of which was a Mural Workshop with artist Rudy Kistler from Zest Events.
Mr Kistler, in conjunction with Barnardos staff, conducted a three day workshop last week at the Cobar Entertainment Centre with 18 art students from Cobar High School along with six Year 6 students from Cobar Public School working together to create a ‘Movie Stars’ themed mural on a wall in the proposed games arcade room at the cinema.
Mr Kistler said the design of the mural had been a collaborative decision between the students and himself.
“The Australian movie stars featured in the mural were all chosen by the kids,” he said.
The finished mural looks great but really came to life when it was unveiled to the public on Friday afternoon along with a light and sound show.
An ultraviolet LED light display highlighted the phosphorescent paint used in the mural and music from hit songs of the movies portrayed in the mural added extra atmosphere.
