July Young Achievers Cindy Mitchell and Chris Freeman were presented with the joint awards for their efforts with the local stage production of Moulin Rouge.

A talented young local couple have been named The Cobar Weekly’s Young Achievers of the month for July.
The male lead of the recent local theatrical production of Moulin Rouge, Chris Freeman, along with Moulin’s producer/director, Cindy Mitchell, were presented with their awards last week.
Chris was nominated for the award through a joint nomination by 13 members of the Moulin Rouge cast.
“Chris had two of the biggest jobs in the show, musical director and lead male,” his nomination read.
In his role as musical director he had to find backing tracks for the show, some of which he had to create.
He also sourced and purchased sound
equipment, coordinated the music and
microphone scripts (which is a big job) and trained a sound team to operate the music system, a job he would normally do during productions, however as he had also agreed
to play the lead, he could not do the two things at once.
Taking on the male lead role was also a big job which entailed months of long rehearsals.
His role in Moulin Rouge was Chris’ first stage appearance and he gave a very creditable performance.
Chris fitted all this in around his full
time job, which requires him to work shift work.
“He achieved so much during Moulin Rouge and is to be commended for all his talent and hard work,” the cast members said.
Moulin Rouge’s producer/director Cindy Mitchell was nominated by fellow cast member Bianca Walsh.
“She does an amazing job,” Mrs Walsh said in her nomination.
“Moulin Rouge was something that involved lots of different members of the community, including lots of people who had no previous stage experience.
“Cindy is just so talented, and is an inspiration to young people.
“Moulin Rouge was her second major production and it’s hard to believe that someone so young can do something like that which is such a massive undertaking.
“Cindy was involved in all aspects of Moulin Rouge from the scripts, music, dancing, and acting down to the sets and costumes.
“She worked for months and months to bring it all together.
“She is a mature, young adult and through Moulin Rouge, she gave a lot of people the opportunity to show off their talents.”
