Golfers face blustery conditions for club foursomes game
Wednesday August 18, 2010
Blustery conditions greeted 13 teams vying for the women’s golf Club Foursomes Championships on Sunday.
This year’s 27 hole champions are Judy Mitchell and Sally Bannister after finishing with a scratch score of 135. The runners-up were Fay Hardwick and Janine Ryan who were not far behind with a score of 140 off the stick.
The 2010 27 hole Net winners were Sue-Ellen Dunne and Youlanda Taylor (112 nett) with Geraldine Francisco and Chrissy Gilligan (113¼ nett) the runners-up.
An 18 hole ball competition was held in conjunction with the Foursomes Championships with Sally Bannister and Judy Mitchell the winners with 74 net. They were followed by Janine Ryan and Fay Hardwick (74½ net), Youlanda Taylor and Sue-Ellen Dunne (75 net), Heather Forster and Tess Lloyd (75 net) and Casey Peter with Vi McLachlan who carded a 76 net score.
Nearest the pins were placed on all par 3 holes and were won by Daphne Cross (with a wonderful shot finishing a foot from the hole) on the 3rd hole, Youlanda Taylor (7th), Barb Barklimore (8th), Sally Bannister (11th) and Gloria Hay on the 15th.
Wet weather played havoc yet again with the women’s golf schedule last Wednesday and as a result the sixth round of the WGNSW Monthly Medal will be played next week.
Saturday’s round did however go ahead in beautiful sunny conditions which suited Robynne Morton who won by three shots carding a 70 net score. Ann Dunn was the runner-up with 73 net followed by Barb Barklimore on a count back from Gloria Hay. Both finished with 75 net. Angela Fryer and Geraldine Francisco also finished well to round out the placings. Morton and Dunn shared the putting prize with 26 putts apiece.
If the predicted rain stays away, today’s game will be a par round while on Saturday a Pink Day is organized to raise money for the Breast Cancer Institute. Players are urged to get their teams of three together and show their support for a cause that is close to our hearts.
A stoke event is to be played at home on Sunday and the Albert Ladies Open is also on Sunday at Albert. A bus will be going to Albert for interested players.—T’d Off
