Records take a dive at carnival

Senior girl swimmers in one of the Dash For Cash events at the Cobar Swimming Club’s Inter-town carnival on Saturday at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool.
The Cobar Swimming Carnival, a Swimming NSW endorsed event, was held last Saturday with nine Western Districts clubs participating in what was undoubtedly a success with 111 athletes competing in 134 events.
The Cobar Swimming Club was extremely proud to enter 50 of its own swimmers to contest the visiting clubs which included, Coonamble, Dubbo City Swimtech, Warren, Bourke, Lightning Ridge, Narromine, Orana Aquatic and Nyngan.
Comments from the visiting clubs confirmed that the Cobar community is in possession of an outstanding swimming facility provided by Cobar Shire Council.
Throughout the day there was fierce competition which eventuated in 61 records being broken during the day-long competition.
Cobar Swimming Club record holders now include Wade Potter, Dylan Prince, Georgia Baker, Attila Szekely and also five year old Jordan Warren who now holds the 17m Backstroke record.
Other new record holders for 2009 include: Lawson Goldsmith, Jesse Ramien, Bridget Goldsmith and Ella Goldsmith (Coonamble); Gracy Sandry, Sarah Valantine, Luci
Ferguson and Tyler Edwards (Dubbo City Swimtech); Libby Noonan, Thomas
Field, Matthew Marks and Craig Field (Warren); William Turner (Bourke); Anna Miglietta, Sky Holland, Brook Holland and Sky Holland (Lightning Ridge); Caitlin
Bayliss (Narromine) and Tegan Douglas (Nyngan).
