The 2010 junior soccer competition
continued on Saturday in balmy, warm
autumn weather at the Cobar High School grounds.
In the early games of the Minis competition, Mariners edged past Wanderers in a tight 6-5 match while Spurs were too good for Rangers 10-5.
Eli Hausia starred for Mariners while goals were shared by Jack Fazulla, Jed O’Neill and Harrison Sharpe for Wanderers.
For Spurs, goals were scored by Thomas Bradley, Christian Marsden, Jett Roche and Klay Roche while Ryley Morley and Todd Polack netted the points for Rangers.
In the late match, United were victorious in a closely fought 8-6 game with Rovers which was played in good spirit.
Goals by United were shared by most of the team while goals for Rovers were scored by Reilly Porter and Jai Roberg.
The weekly award winners were Charlotte Gapps for Rangers, Jett Roche for Spurs, Jai Roberg for Rovers, Georgie Buckman for United, Harry Motton for Mariners and Jed O’Neill for Wanderers.
The Mids competition again produced close games with United drawing with Rangers 0-all and Wanderers outlasting a tenacious Spurs in a very tight 2-1 match.
The weekly award winners were John Taylor for United, Charlie Jenkins for Rangers, Brandy Shephard for Spurs and Fred Maclean for Wanderers.
In the Seniors competition, Spurs led well by Brayden Pennell, Braydon Greenaway and Ethan Brookman, proved too good for a gallant Rangers team in a very competitive 4-2 game.
Rangers had several chances in the first half but were unable to convert.
The weekly award winners were Brayden Greenaway for Spurs and Georgia Baker for Rangers.
In the Under 18s Competition, Spurs were far too good for United and turned the tables form the previous week’s contest to win 7-4.
The weekly award winners were Marshall Anderson for United and Rhys Smith for Spurs.
In other junior soccer news, a Referees course will be held this weekend and is a good opportunity to learn more about the game.
The Nyngan Soccer Gala Day will be held next month.—contributed
