Cobar businesses go against the trend
Wednesday August 19, 2009
Cobar’s small businesses are going against the trend of their regional counterparts with 10 new businesses nominated for the 2009 Great Cobar Business Awards.
Cobar Business Association (CBA) president Michael Cox said that it was very good news that the ‘New Business’ category for this year’s awards had the most entries of all the categories.
“Our guest judges [Robyn Lamont and Peter English from Regional Development Australia – Orana Inc.] noted that a number of other towns cannot run this category due to lack of new business starts,” Mr Cox reported in the CBA’s recent newsletter.
“Cobar had a great variety of entrants with 10 businesses nominated in total for this award.”
The nominations for the 2009 New Business Award are: Bizzy B’s, Cobar Central Motor Inn, Marie Claire Nursery, PC Desktop Support, Sam Williams Chiropractor, Look No Further, Cobar Primary Health Care Centre, Indigo Crystals, SC Auto Electrical and the Outback Artists Gallery.
The judging for this year’s 2009 Great Cobar Business Awards has been completed.
“All that is left to do is make the presentations,” Mr Cox said.
“This year saw almost 60 businesses or individuals nominated across ten categories.
This year’s categories are: Retail; Personal Services; Professional Services: Manufacturing: Hospitality/Tourism; Government/Community; Apprentice; Trainee; New Business and Environmental Achievement.
“Over 220 people voted for businesses in the four public voting categories.
“This kept the judges busy!”
Mr Cox said the two judges from the new organisation Regional Development Australia (who sponsor the regional awards) assisted with judging four categories with the winners to be announced at the awards dinner on Friday August 28 at the Golfie.
“It is always a great chance to catch up with other business people, network and celebrate the successes of our great local businesses,” Mr Cox said of the annual awards night.
