Golfers celebrate end of season

Cobar Bowling and Golf Club president Jim Goonrey (left) and men’s golf captain Peter Brien (right) were on hand on Saturday night at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club’s Sportsman’s Dinner to congratulate successful junior golfers Jeb Bishop and Matt Egan.
Golfers and other Cobar Bowling and Golf Club sportsmen gathered on Saturday night at the club to celebrate the end of their
seasons.
Men’s golf captain Peter Brien presented the men’s golf awards.
He singled out juniors Jeb Bishop (Captain’s Trophy) and Matt Egan (winner of the Cobar Open and a number of major titles) for praise saying they were the club’s most consistent players.
In the men’s golf competitions played last week, six players contested a stableford event last Wednesday with Mick Bannister winning with 42 points, followed by Tom Fox (39).
A field of 22 players teed-off on Saturday to contest a stroke event with some good scores being recorded.
Matt Egan won with a fine 64 net score.
Peter Brien came in second on a count back from Ernie Potter. Both scored 65 net.
Another good field of 19 played a stableford event on Sunday with Michael Ryan emerging victorious on 46 points.
He was followed by Jim Russell (43) and Jeff Smith (41).
This Saturday’s event will be a Mixed American sponsored by Red Earth Real Estate.
Sunday is the 2008 closing day and will be a stroke event preceded by the men’s golf annual general meeting.—contributed
