Many locals have been thrilled at the sight of the Darling River back to its former glory, with the formerly almost dry river bed flowing again with water from
widespread rainfall over the Christmas/New Year period and floodwaters moving downstream from the Coonamble area. This picture was taken at Louth around two weeks ago, however the river is expected to continue to rise in the coming days. A minor to major flood warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for the Darling River at Bourke and smaller communities downstream including Louth and Tilpa. The bureau says the river is expected to peak at Bourke early next week at a depth of 10.8m, at Louth late next week at a depth of 10.1m, and at Tilpa in early
February at a depth of 10.5m. Measurements taken at Louth on Tuesday indicated a river height of 9.6m. In the past month, Bourke has received more than 80mm of rain, Louth measured 33mm and Tilpa recorded 30mm since Christmas.
