Cobar is to play host to one of the biggest sporting names in Australian history when rugby legend John Eales visits next month.
Eales will be the guest speaker at the Cobar and District Rugby Union Club’s ‘Luncheon with The Legend’ fundraising event on February 18 at the Services Club.
Event organiser and rugby fanatic, Peter Payne, is more than excited about the impending visit from the rugby icon.
“He’s the complete package, he’s the epitome of rugby.
“This is a huge thing for the Cobar Rugby Club and also for Cobar.
“To have someone of John Eales’ calibre visit Cobar is something that does not happen to small country towns,” Mr Payne said.
He said plans for the event were well under way with the venue, caterer and the charter flight to get Eales to Cobar ‘all but’ booked and confirmed.
“Everything is falling into place nicely.
“Our target is 300 and we should be able to handle this with ease after catering for 450 for the club’s 50 Years Reunion in 2008 and also last year’s very successful Rugby 10s and Rodeo event.”
