The summer golf competition is heating up

While many sports may have gone into recession over the Christmas and hot January holiday
period, one local sport that’s still well patronised is golf.
Wednesday’s stableford competition attracted a field of 14 golfers for the 18 hole stableford event.
Pat Polack was the winner with 42 points followed by Scott Meadows with 38 points on a count back from Ann Dunn.
Nearest the pin winners were Dunn (2) Meadows (2) and Ray Yench.
Polack and Michael Ryan were the chicken run winners.
Eighteen players contested Saturday’s par event.
Kent Donally (back in Cobar for a visit) enjoyed his return to the sandgreens winning with a score of +6.
He was followed by Pat Mitchell (+5) with Doug Simpson and Peter Brien finishing with +4 scores.
The chicken run winners were Simpson, Tony Polack and Bayley Prendergast.
The nearest the pin winners were Robyn Morton (2), Pat Polack, Neville Fugar and Peter Brien.
A field of 23 players fronted for the Sunday morning 18 hole stableford competition with a further five players turning up for the evening chicken run.
Bill Fugar was the stableford winner with 44 points.
He was followed by Neville Fugar (42 points), Patrick Bourke (also on 42 points) and Bayley Prendergast (39 points).
Brenda Fugar, Bill Fugar, Peter Brien, Bayley Prendergast and Neville Fugar won the chickens.
Nearest the pin prizes were picked up by Bourke (2), Bill Fugar, Jannine Wilkin and Dylan Prince.
The summer mixed competition continues this week.
Also included on the golf calendar this week on Sunday is night golf.
The game will commence at 8.30pm with a four person Ambrose competition over six holes to be played.—Ace
