The best Golfie bowls news this week is the No. 7 Pennants’ team win of the final contested at the Golfie on Sunday against Bourke.

Golfie won, scoring 4½ to 1½ to clinch the District Pennant with the overall result 15-9.

Tom Fox’s side was undefeated throughout the series with two draws and two wins.

Last Thursday’s Golden Oldies had 12 starters, with Jack Tulloh and Terry Clyde the winners and Bill Dickson and Rod Leahy the runners-up.

The result was once more decided on a count back.

The Monthly Consistency Trophy was shared between Joe Chandler and Terry Clyde, with 45 points each.

Also a feature of Thursday was the coaching session for juniors conducted by Don Breeze and Ted Cassidy.

Organisers had hoped for a better attendance but the few who did turn up received a thorough grounding on the lawn bowls game, and excellent coaching.

One more game of District Championship 2 bowls triples was played over the weekend which was a very even and exciting game.

Ben Jentjens, Sid Fugar and Justin Bartlett defeated Jack Tulloh, Trevor Bartlett and Don Datson 22-21 after the score was 21-all at 20 ends.

Two teams of triples travelled to Hillston to compete in the recent Annual Easter Carnival.

Cobar’s most successful team was Jeff Curry, Jim Bruce and Neville Fisher who picked up third prize with five wins out of six.

Darlington Point were the overall winners.

Jim and John Goonrey with Terry Clyde, won their share of games but finished out of the money.
All voted it was a great weekend which is the norm at Hillston.—Max
