Cobar golfers Klae McGuinness and Michael Ryan won the 2009 NSW Sandgreen Four Ball title at Bourke on Sunday after a sudden death play off with Brewarrina’s Bruce Bennett and Joel McHughes.
After a round of 65 on Saturday, the Cobar pair were the day one leaders of the competition ahead of last year’s title holders Phil Gilligan and Matt Egan and three shots ahead of Bennett and Hughes.
McGuinness and Ryan held out on the second day finishing with a round of 70 to tie with Bennett and Hughes, who finished their second day with a score of 67.
The game then was decided with a play-off and Ryan’s fantastic long range eagle putt cinched their win.
Barraba’s Peter York and Kevin Kellaher finished in third place.
They were a single shot back on 136.
This year’s championships were contested at the Darling River Golf Course in Bourke and attracted a big field of 128 golfers.
The field included players from Guyra, Coonamble, Portland, Walcha, Tamworth, Moree, Manildra, Armidale as well as Dubbo, Narromine, Parkes, Nyngan and
Brewarrina.
