New owners take over butcher shop in main street

Wednesday July 22, 2009

New owners at Butchery
James and Kim Degn at work at J & K Butchery on Monday.

The butcher shop in the main street has new owners, a new business name and a new layout in the shop.

Local qualified butcher James Degn, together with his wife Kim, opened the doors to the J&K Butchery in Marshall Street last Friday with Mr Degn saying it was the busiest day of his career.

Mr Degn has worked for the past nine and half years as the head butcher at Burgess SUPA IGA and has previously worked at Khan’s SUPA IGA.

“I did my apprenticeship in a retail shop like this one in Brisbane 18 years ago,” Mr Degn said.

“We have wanted to have our own shop for a while, it seemed like the next step and we thought now was the right time to do it.”

The shop stocks a range of fresh meat including chicken, pork, lamb, beef and small goods along with meat packs and daily specials.

If customers are looking for specific cuts of meats for their favourite gourmet recipes, the J&K staff can arrange it.

“We are happy to prepare anything a customer wants, they just need to come in and talk to us and we’ll do our best to get it for them.”
