Council to consider request for medical centre rent review
Wednesday July 22, 2009
The Outback Division of General Practice is requesting a rental review from Cobar Shire Council for the Cobar Primary Health Care Centre.
The division has asked for a reduction in its yearly rental after admitting to running at a deficit, with the matter to be considered at tomorrow’s monthly meeting of council.
“The Division further highlights the fact that the ongoing viability of the centre was based on there being a minimum of three general practitioners contributing to the centre’s operating cost and to date this has not been achieved on a regular basis,” Council’s general manager Ray Smith said in a report to councillors.
He said the request includes an understanding that the rental be reviewed on an annual basis should the centre become profitable.
Also on the agenda at tomorrow’s meeting is a notification from Telstra that it is considering removing three payphones in the Cobar Shire area.
Public payphones in Brough Street Cobar, as well as in the villages of Euabalong and Canbelego, have all been earmarked for removal with Cobar Shire Council invited to make submissions on the proposal.
Councillors are being asked to decide at tomorrow’s meeting which action to take in regards to the proposal.
Other items on the agenda tomorrow include a recent meeting of a subcommittee hoping
to bring natural gas to Cobar, and a meeting
of the Orana Regional Organisation of Councils (OROC).
Both committees have made recommendations which require adoption by Cobar Shire Council before action can be taken.
