Cobar Old Boys to join Men of League
Wednesday July 22, 2009
A meeting will be held tomorrow night with the interest of forming a Cobar Old Boys Men of League Organisation/Foundation.
Cobar Rugby League stalwart Ian Prendergast said a steering committee was recently elected to get things started with their first step being the election of an executive committee.
“With the executive committee elected we would look at obtaining as many members as possible in Cobar and surrounding districts to become life time members of the Cobar Old Boys and life members of the Men of League Foundation which now has over 10,000 members,” Mr Prendergast said.
He said the Cobar Old Boys organisation is not only for men but also encourages women with an interest in league to join as well.
“The primary objective of the Old Boys League Organisation/Foundation is to simply look after our own, whether that be to help the elderly, sick or people doing it tough.
“It also aims to keep in contact with old players and keep them informed of what’s going on in the club and support the local junior and senior league clubs.”
He said another of their objectives was to assist those from all levels of the rugby league fraternity who, for various reasons, have fallen on hard times.
“The foundation also has a scheme that finds careers for young rugby league players who have suffered career ending injuries or are unable to realise their playing ambitions.
“With the executive committee in place and a committee to help arrange functions and helping with our objectives, I think this is going to be a great thing for the community.”
